Purpose of this assessment
This assignment is designed toassess thelearner’s knowledge of the principles ofmanagement andoperations,
enabling them toidentify and use fundamental toolsand concepts that incentiviseleadership, managerial and
operational improvements within organisations, in order to reap business benefits.
VocationalScenario:
Assume you are part of the HumanResources (HR) department of an organisation of your choice. As part of the
company’s commitment to excellence through the continuous improvement and training of their staff, they
have asked you to prepare informativedidactic material that will used in their corporatetraining programmes.
The organisation is seeking to identify talented individuals who will be groomed for influential positions. As
such, it is important to identify and define key behavioural characteristics and traits related to the role of
managers and leaders within business and organisational environments.
TASK 1– InfoGraphic – Must Demonstrate fulfilment of LO1 (P1, M1, D1)
Working individually and using aspecificdesign tool (asinstructed by your lecturer), you need to produce a
creativeand informative Infographic that:
1. Define and comparethe difference betweenthe roles of a manager and a leader. Support your analysis
by effectively applying a range of theories and concepts, as covered in class.
2. Includes specific businessand individual examples to show different types of behaviours
Submission Format:
TheInfographic must be submitted as one PDF or JPEG file in A4 format. It may be portrait or landscape layout.
The Infographic must be well designed and should look professional, thusallowing information to be clearly and
comprehensively communicated. It should make creative use of different ways to present data, and must be
supported with specific business cases and examples.
Task 2– Individual Exam- Must Demonstrate fulfilment of LO2 (P2, P3, M2, D1)
Students willsit an individual closed book 2-hour examination.The exam will include two parts.
Part A – Assessment Questions
Includes questions that will require learners to demonstrate knowledge andcomprehension of course topics.

Using a short case study, which will be available before the exam, students will need to answerquestions that
will require them to demonstrate their ability to critically analyse specific businessscenarios by applying course
concepts andtheories to practicalsituations.
Submission Format:
Students will submit a handwritten examination booklet containing the answers to the questions provided.It is
imperative that the answers submitted by students are clear and legible in order for them to be graded.TASK 3:
INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION- Must Demonstrate fulfilment of LO3 (P4, P5, M3, D2) & LO4 (P6, M4,D2)
Working individually, you will select a renowned organisational leader and you will prepare anengaging and
informative PowerPoint presentation where you will showcase their personal leadership profile and the
achievements they accomplished throughmanagement andoperation performance improvements.
The presentation slides should cover the following areas:
1. An overview of the individuals biography and career highlights.
2. An introduction to the key operations of the organisation they transformed
3. An evaluationhow the internal and externaloperation managementenvironments created an
atmosphere that allowed for that particularindividual and his respective leadership style to flourish.
4. How operational efficiencies improved to successfully meet businessobjectives,using appropriate
management and leadershipapproaches.
5. Conclusions and supported recommendations for future improvements to be taken by theleader and
the respective organisation, taking onto account how different factors affect the business environment
and wider community.
Submission Format:
The submission is in the form of a 10-minute individual PowerPoint presentation and 5 minutes allocated for
questions. The presentation slides and speaker notes should be submitted as one copy. You are required to
make effective use of PowerPoint headingsand subsections as appropriate.You should make use of engaging
presentation styles and content delivery methods, including video, audio and images, as well asdemonstrate
public speakingskills.
Your research should be referenced using the Harvard referencing system. Please also provide a bibliography
using the Harvard referencing system. The recommended word limit is 1,500words, including speaker notes.
Note:The Programme Leader or Programme Manager may, at their discretion, request a supplementary20-
minute PowerPoint presentation with 10 minutes questions about any written work submitted as an
assessment, where the lecturer suspects that the work is not the students own authentic work and such
student has been referred by the lecture for potential academic misconduct.
