Regis to produce sustainability reports

Assume the CEO is satisfied with your report (Assignment One) and withinAssignment One you have recommended Regis to produce sustainabilityreports to external stakeholders. To follow up, the CEO asks you to completea second business report to address his following requirements.1. Why should Regis provide sustainability report?2. To whom should these reports be addressed?3. What information should be reported?4. How should the information be reported?5. Provide a sample Sustainability Report for 2019.Within the report, the CEO also asks you to apply one theory into yourdiscussion to explain and justify your recommendations as to why, to whom,what and how information should be reported (the first four questions) in thesample 2019 report.Submission requirementsWord Limit:Maximum total of 2,600 words for the first four questions (not includingexecutive summary, table of contents, references and appendices). Wordcount includes every word in the body of text (from your Introduction sectionto the end of Conclusion section, including figures, tables, headings, etc).Every 100 words above the word limit attracts 0.5 marks deduction ofavailable marks.There is no word limit for Question 5 (a sample sustainability report). To successfully complete thisassignment, your readings should start with, but not be limited to, theComponent Two materials (Topics 4-6) of the course. You need to search formaterials that are outside of prescribed texts and these materials form thebase of your assignment.Your recommendations on the sustainability report are expected to besupported by one theory (i.e. legitimacy theory, institutional theory, theethical branch of stakeholder theory, or the managerial branch ofstakeholder theory) that you have studied in Topic 4. To apply a theory well,it is suggested that you explain the theory first. Applying more than onetheory is not recommended as you will need to justify why one theory is notsufficient and explain the second theory well (this will take up your wordlimit).The theory that you choose to apply should be explicitly applied to yourdiscussion on all of the four questions asked by the CEO. That is, the chosentheory and the relevant concepts need to be explained by referring to10 Accounting for Sustainable Managementrelevant literature from academic journals (addressing Q1); the chosentheory will direct discussion in identifying the users of the report (addressingQ2) and the associate expectations and information needs of the usersidentified (addressing Q3); and, the adopting of a specific reporting guidelineneed to be justified by the chosen theory (addressing Q4). Please note thatdifferent theories will derive different answers of the questions. The linkbetween your theory and your answer (i.e., the way you apply the chosentheory) to each question needs to be explicit and specific.To further address Q3, a reporting materiality matrix can be developed atthe end of Q2. Please note this matrix is developed for reporting purposewhich should be different (although there might be some overlapping topics)from the strategic materiality matrix that we developed in Assignment One.If we intend to use GRI Standards or IR then the matrix needs to be consistentwith the chosen reporting guidelines regarding materiality.Q5 requires you to propose a sample of the 2019 Regis Sustainability Report.To add value of your consulting service to Regis, this report should be aspractical as possible and as detailed as possible. All the issues that have beenconsidered in the first four questions should be reflected in your suggestedsample report. Aiming to provide a helpful sample in a way that Regis canliterature just fill in some quantitative numbers or some finer details – makesure that your sample report is preparer- and user-friendly.You can choose follow to the current Regis 2018 Sustainability Report formatwith three sections of the Report: Our Environment, Our Community and OurEmployees. Alternatively, you might want to present the sustainability reportthat best reflect Regis. Detailed suggestions on Q5 will be discussed inclasses. Sustainability Manager of Regis will be joining us providing adviceand clarifying requirements.To demonstrate your problem-solving skills, it is strongly suggested that youlink your analysis and argument specifically to Regis. Avoid being too general.Using the findings from your Assignment One, identify specific sustainabilityissues that Regis is facing as well as providing recommendations on how toreport these issues. The most important skill that you are expected todevelop from this task is your reasoning skill and application skill. That is,you are expected to justify your arguments in the context of Regis.Read carefully the marking rubric (next page), and understand how your workwill be assessed.
